Claude Rains in Phantom of the Opera (1943)

This 1943 Universal Studios version of The Phantom of the Opera stars Claude Rains as the mercurial phantom. The climax shows his horrible scarred face while wielding a sword against his aggressors. This image was wonderfully captured by the peerless Jeff Yagher and released by X-O Facto. The sword was airbrushed with Alclad steel while the rest of the piece was all hand painted using acrylics. The sword as supplied is a thin piece of resin that over time would sag so to prevent this each side of the blade has a steel rod glued over it to help insure stability and help prevent sagging.
